Abilene residents went into the weekend a little shaky as an earthquake rocked the Big Country on Friday, December 16th. The 5.4 earthquake was named the fourth largest in Texas history according to the United States Geological Survey's website.

Parade Of Homes Abilene
Tucked away in South Taylor County, just off FM 89 between Abilene and Buffalo Gap, is our latest subdivision Highland Farms. Right outside city limits in the Wylie School District, Highland Farms offers easy access to amenities in Abilene with scenic views of Steamboat Mountain. A quick drive to Buffalo Gap provides plenty of small town experiences, easy access to the Abilene State Park or a steak night at Perini Ranch. 34 lots will be completed in 5 phases for a total of 121 lots upon completion. And, as McMillon said, it was an experience and opportunity born out of the hard work the group puts in day in and day out. They were also there for business, and it began the Sunday before the parade with a six-hour rehearsal, followed by a Monday night rehearsal with all the acts, TV cameras, and empty streets in lower Manhattan. Both Sam and Sharla are proud to call themselves fourth generation Texans. Sam’s great-grandfather established his first ranch in El Paso, Tx., before eventually moving to Spur, Tx., to form one of the larger ranches in Kent County. In honor of this heritage, Sam named his home building company the “Flying V”, the brand of his grandmother’s ranch.
The Cougarettes worked for several weeks after school to prepare for the parade, while also readying themselves to perform at Cooper Cougar football games. “One of the things I love about drill team is the opportunities it gives these girls outside of dance,” said Cougarettes director Kimberely McMillon. Seniors Sydney Smith and Rae Bugarin represented the Cougarettes as dancers in the parade, which was broadcast to a global audience on NBC. Since moving to Abilene, Kyle and his team have built over 400 homes with prices ranging from $200,000 to well over a million. Kyle is also the developer behind Wylie Ridge, Legacy Village, South Fork Ranch, Antilley West, Highland Farms, and is excited to introduce his latest project this summer, The Harvest. Kyle graduated from Missouri State University in 2008 with a degree in Economics. Upon graduation he relocated back to Texas where he had started his college career and met his wife, Kandon. Kyle’s collegiate athletic career in baseball taught him the value of a strong work ethic and affirmed his belief that results are a direct reflection of the time and effort put into the task at hand. He brings the same passion to building homes as he did to his baseball career that included a 2006 Major League Baseball Draft selection and a 2008 nomination to the Brooks Wallace Award list for top collegiate player in the nation.
Kyle’s construction career started while working as a project manager for a residential and commercial real estate investment firm that focused on value-add properties in the West Texas market. After several years primarily focused on remodeling, Kyle expanded into new construction investment properties and soon after began building custom homes. Constructing quality-built homes with beauty and elegance has been what Homes by Design has done here, in the Abilene area, for years. Jon is a second-generation builder growing up on construction sites with his father and working with construction crews in high school and college. Upon graduating from Stephenville High School, Jon attended Hardin-Simmons University where he was a two-time All-Conference defensive back for the Cowboys. Jon spent the next 15 years coaching football around the State of Texas before choosing to invest his time in the family business and community.
